Ingredients
Here is a quick look at the ingredients needed for this blue cocktail recipe. Full measurements are in the printable recipe card featured at the bottom of the post.
Flavored Syrups – Raspberry syrup, and blue raspberry syrup are both used to create the defined colors that swirl through the glass. Also, you will use blue raspberry juice as well as the syrup.
Pina Colada Mix – You can find this at the liquor store or grocery store. It is going to be over in the cocktail supplies in a bottle.
Rum – A white rum and then an aged rum is what I used for this cocktail. Now if you don’t want to buy two kinds of rum, reach for one type. Either will work.
Ice – Since this is a frozen pina colada recipe you will use ice for blending up the cocktail ingredients.
Malibu – Malibu coconut rum is used for the coconut layer of this pina colada recipe. It enhances and separates the flavor from the other flavors.
What is the best blender to use?
When making a frozen drink it is important to reach for a high-powered blender. You will find if your blender doesn’t have a lot of power it will struggle to crush up and blend the ice and ingredients together.
Variations to Recipe
- Swap the raspberry syrup with strawberry syrup for a strawberry pina colada.
- Use cherry syrup in replace of blue raspberry or raspberry.
- Make your own pina colada mix instead of buying it premade.
- Use any type of glass to serve your cocktail. It doesn’t have to be a hurricane glass.
- Leave out the alcohol to make this a kid-friendly mocktail.
Tips for Swirling The Colors In Glass
What I recommend doing is adding a scoop of each flavor into the glass. Then lightly tap the glass on the counter, and twist the glass a bit as you do it. This will create that swirl look. Then repeat by adding a little of each flavor.
Every glass will look a bit different but you will find it creates that nice swirl of colors which gives it that stand-out look.
Storing
Since this is a frozen drink you are going to want to make and serve it up right away. If you happen to have leftovers you can place any leftovers in an ice cube tray and freeze if you want.
Then add into a cocktail for added flavor or even spa-style water for sipping. But actually saving the cocktail to drink later isn’t going to work as it freezes pretty hard.

Can I add fresh fruit to the cocktail?
Go right ahead and add some fresh strawberries, raspberries, or even pineapple or mango into the recipe. Just mix the fruit with one or a mix of the flavors and blend until creamy. You can also garnish with coconut flakes, mint leaves, or even a lime wedge for added flavor and looks.

Yes, this is a sweet sippable cocktail that is swirled with a mix of flavors. You will find the blue raspberry and raspberry layers are the sweetest and the coconut Malibu layer is a bit less on the sweetness.
