These Red, White, and Blue Jell-O Shots are a super easy addition to any Fourth of July cook out or party! You can make these patriotic Jell-O shots kiddo friendly, or add some vodka for the adults.

The great part about these is that you can easily switch out the colors to match any holiday or theme you need!

HOW TO MAKE RED, WHITE, AND BLUE JELLO SHOTS

These Jell-O shots are super easy, but they require some patience (I know.. not my strong suite either..). Every layer needs to set before you add the next so that you have the three distinct layers.

Step 1: Empty the blue Jell-O package into a small bowl and mix with 1 cup boiling water until the powder is completely dissolved. Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes then add about 1/4 cup vodka if using.

Step 2: Prepare the disposable cups by placing one in each muffin tin tilted on one side.

Step 3: Divide the blue Jell-O evenly between the cups. Place in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes or until set.

Step 4: Prepare the white layer by mixing one packet of unflavored gelatin in a small bowl with 1/4 cup milk. Heat remaining milk in a small saucepan until hot but not boiling. Add the sugar, vanilla extract, and 1/2 cup vodka if using. Combine the warmed milk mixture with the gelatin milk mixture and whisk to combine.

Step 5: Flip each of the disposable cups to the opposite side of the muffin tin. Evenly pour the white Jell-O layer over the blue. Place back into the refrigerator until set.

Step 6: Empty the red Jell-O package into a small bowl and mix with 1 cup boiling water until the powder is completely dissolved. Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes then add about 1/4 cup vodka if using.

Step 7: Set the cups upright in the muffin tin, and evenly divide the red Jell-O over top of the white layer. Allow to set in the refrigerator for 3-4 hours or until completely set.

Step 8: Once you are ready to serve, top with whipped cream and edible gold stars!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. HOW TO MAKE WHITE JELLO. For this recipe I use milk to create the white layer. Since Jell-O doesn’t have a white flavor yet, you have to get creative here. I sweeten the milk myself, BUT you can also use sweetened condensed milk if preferred. Simply mix the Jell-O up as described and add in 7 oz. sweetened condensed milk.
  2. CAN I USE SHORTER SHOT GLASSES? Yes, but the serving size will be a little different depending on the size of the cup you use.
  3. CAN I MAKE THESE AHEAD OF TIME? Absolutely! I would actualyl recommend making them the day before your event to make sure they are fully set and ready to do. That takes one more thing off of your plate the day of. Make sure that if you add the toppings, to do that RIGHT BEFORE you serve or the whipped cream will melt and be gross..

If you want to make a kiddo safe version, omit the vodka and replace with the same amount of boiling water. For the white layer, replace with milk.
